Roundy’s Foundation Launches Facebook Competition as part of upcoming “Focused on Feeding Families” Tour
The “Recipe Face-Off” Invites Cooks to Submit Recipes and Win a Donation for a Food Pantry
(April 17, 2012) – Roundy’s Foundation is issuing a challenge as part of its upcoming “Roundy’s Foundation Focused on Feeding Families” tour. This week it launched the “Recipe Face-Off” Facebook competition to raise awareness about the needs of area food pantries and, ultimately, provide one lucky food pantry with a surprise donation.
Here’s how the “Recipe Face-Off” works. Fans of the Roundy’s Foundation Facebook page (facebook.com/ RoundysFoundation) are invited to submit a recipe using five pre-selected ingredients that are commonly found at a food pantry. A panel of judges will then nominate the three top recipe submissions to move on to the final voting round. The final decision will be left up to the fans. The top three recipes will be posted on Roundy’s Foundation Facebook page where participants vote for the winner by “Liking” their favorite recipe. A food donation will be placed by Roundy’sFoundation to a food pantry of the winner’s choice.
“We’re trying to bring attention to the issue of hunger in our communities, while giving our customers an easy way to give back,” said Roundy’s Chairman and CEO Bob Mariano. “The Recipe Face-Off brings a fun and interactive online aspect to the tour that will engage and educate followers.”
The Recipe Face-Off is part of the “Roundy’s Foundation Focused on Feeding Families Tour” that kicks off in Minneapolis Minnesota on Monday, April 23. The tour will be making 14 stops in five days, including Milwaukee on April 27. Through the food tour, six food pantries in the Milwaukee area will each receive more than $6,384 in food and money totaling a donation of more than$38,304 to the area. In total, the Roundy’s Foundation will donate $257,000 in money and food to 60 food pantries in five days.
The tour targets smaller, neighborhood pantries feeling the strain of the economy and increased demand. In the Milwaukee area, the receiving pantries are: Sherman Park Community Ministries Food Pantry, First Lutheran Church Food Pantry, Ascension Lutheran Church, Greater Philadelphia Church of God, Unity Lutheran Church, and Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
