MILWAUKEE (April 4, 2012) – “In the Heights” winner of four 2008 Tony Awards® and the

2008 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album, is coming to the Milwaukee Theatre for

three performances May 4 at 8 p.m. and May 5 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

Tickets start at $33, discounts are available and can be purchased online via ticketmaster.com, at

the Milwaukee Theatre box office (500 W. Kilbourn Ave. Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.

“In the Heights” tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington

Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the

windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s

a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest

struggle can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

In addition to winning the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical, Miranda won the Tony Award

for Best Music and Lyrics. The show also won for Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.

In addition, the original cast recording won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show

Album.

“In the Heights” began as a scribble in the margins of show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s

astronomy notebook during his sophomore year of college. Miranda, whose parents were both

born in Puerto Rico, would spend hours imagining what life would be like to have been born

there. From those scribbles, a musical began.

A PBS special, “In the Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams” chronicled the personal stories of

composer/lyricist/creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and the Broadway cast of “In the Heights” in the

months leading up to its opening night on Broadway and premiered on PBS stations across the

country in May 2009.
