Betsy and I were given the opportunity to try out Smucker's Sweet Orange Marmalade.
Instead of taking the easy way out and just trying it out on toast, which would be a good option as the marmalade has a nice orange taste without being over poweringly on the sweet side, I decided to find some recipes that I could incorporate the marmalade into. I was able to come up with two.
The first was slow cooker orange chicken. You will need around 1 pound of boneless skinless chicken thighs, flour, 1/3 cup sweet orange marmalade, 1/3 cup of your favorite bbq sauce, and 2 TBS soy sauce.
Cut the chicken into bite size pieces, coat with flour, and place in your slow cooker.
Stir in the remaining ingredients.
Cook on low for around 6 hours, or on high for about 3 hours.
We served ours with some brown rice and stir fried vegetables.
The coating on the chicken was sweet and clung to the chicken very well, it reminded me of some we have had from some chinese restaurants. I certainly make this again.
The second recipe was for a dipping sauce, which I made when we had homemade chicken tenders one night. You will need 1/3 cup of your choice of bbq sauce (we used a honey bbq sauce), 2 TBS sweet orange marmalade, and 1 TBS apple cider vinegar.
Put all the ingredients into a bowl and mix them until combined.
You are then ready to dip your chicken tenders in them.
The tanginess of the bbq sauce combines well with the sweetness of the marmalade. You could add an additional level of flavor to the sauce by adding some hot sauce to give it that sweet and spicy combination that goes so well together.
Hopefully this gives you some inspiration to take Smucker's products beyond toast and sandwiches by finding recipes to incorporate them into.
